Ayo is the Yoruba sowing game for two players. Each side has six pits and the board holds 48 seeds. Collect 25 to win.

These are the standard rules. Relay sowing, collect on 4, the end-game sweep and the feed rule are all on.

How to play

• Each player owns the row of six pits nearest them. Every pit starts with 4 seeds.
• On your turn, lift every seed from one of your pits and sow them one per pit, counter-clockwise.
• If your last seed lands in a pit that already holds seeds, lift them all and keep sowing from there.
• Whenever a seed you drop makes any pit hold exactly 4, on your side or your opponent's, you collect those 4 at once. A pit that already holds 4 becomes 5 and stays on the board.
• Your turn ends when your last seed lands in an empty pit or makes a 4.
• A sowing of 12 or more seeds skips the pit it started from.
• If your opponent has no seeds, you must give them some when you can.
• The first player to 25 seeds wins. A 24 to 24 finish is a draw.
• If 60 moves pass with no seeds collected, the game ends and each side keeps the seeds in its own row.
• Turning off relay sowing and collect on 4 in House rules gives Ayò Ọlọ́pọ́n, where a last seed that makes 2 or 3 in an opponent's pit captures it.
• Tap a pit to sow it. Hover or press and hold a pit to see where the last seed lands. Tap anywhere during a sowing to skip it. Keys 1 to 6 also sow, in sowing order along your row.

Ayo (ah-YOH) is the Yoruba name. The game is also called Ayò Ọlọ́pọ́n, Ncho and Okwe.
